Wining & Dining

“After an action-packed day, it’s lovely to relax over an evening meal of the finest local cuisine and a glass of crisp white wine.”

When it comes to great food and wine, you are spoilt for choice in Oeste Portugal. The cold Atlantic current provides some of the tastiest seafood in Europe and the rich fertile soils help to produce acres of fresh vegetables, fragrant fruits and vineyards.

Local restaurants and bars serve up large portions of flavoursome regional specialities. Just down the road in Turcifal you will find two fine restaurants; Lampião serves traditional Portuguese food within a friendly family owned restaurant. Lanterna is run by Mr. António and his wife – once you try their steak from cows reared on the Socorro mountain, you will never want it from anywhere else!

The seaside town of Ericeira has around 50 seafood restaurants, some specialising in freshly caught fish and seafood. Restaurant Furnas is a favourite for delicious seafood with a spectacular ocean view. Mar a Vista, also in Ericeira, is the best shellfish restaurant you’ll ever find!

Two other local restaurants we would recommend are Barracão in Paul and Trás da Orelha in Catefica, where chef Victor prepares a special menu everyday from the freshest available ingredients.

If you are cooking at home, make a trip to local vineyards and markets to taste and select your wines and ingredients. Vineyards Quinta do Sanguinhal  and Quina dos Loridos can both be visited by appointment, while the famous daily market at Praça da República, Caldas da Rainha, makes a change from supermarket shopping for your food!

For a break from self-catering, CampoReal offers a 15% discount on food at the restaurants and bars for all CampoReal homeowners. It is tempting to indulge in a delicious meal at Grande Escolha every now and then.
