Environmental Care

CampoReal Golf Resort & Spa enjoys an unspoiled landscape of matchless beauty, rich in flora and fauna. We want it to stay that way.

As the first resort in Europe to be developed in association with environmental planning experts at the renowned Audubon International Institute, we have consistently applied environmentally sensitive management practices to ensure a hospitable and sustainable habitat for wildlife throughout the resort.

Blending sympathetically with the landscape, with natural planting around the fairways, the par 72 championship golf course reflects the area’s status as an Audubon Silver Signature nature reserve. We strictly control the use of chemicals in course maintenance, to conserve and protect land, water, wildlife and natural resources. The climate here is warm and dry, but our greens and fairways need constant watering. We are fortunate in being able to draw on the natural wells around the site, plus the 65,000 cubic square metre capacity of our own reservoirs.

Internationally renowned architects and planners Luís Bleck Da Silva, Jose Baganha Arquitects, Salazar Monteiro and Jack Jones have spared none of their talents in capturing the essence of traditional Portuguese architecture, while designing properties with all the convenience, quality and style expected by the international market and discerning local buyers.

Centre stage, the hotel and spa’s traditional design of courtyard, cloister and balcony will blend easily with vast areas of glass to create an unmistakably modern, but strikingly classical building.

Many of the site’s natural features and historic buildings have been retained and enhanced, with mature trees forming part of the new landscape. The original chapel is now an integral part of the 18th hole.

CampoReal has an unusually low density – with fewer than five homes per hectare over the 160,000m² site, landscaped into the foothills to form an amphitheatre around the course with clear views of the surrounding countryside.
